Philips Lighting Upgrades Production and Operation of Ecobain Gardens, Canada’s First Commercial Plant Factory

Philips Lighting recently announced that it has completed the installation of all Philips GreenPower LED production modules at Ecobain Gardens, Canada’s largest commercial plant factory. By upgrading the original fluorescent lights in the facility to an LED lighting system, Philips will help this plant factory take the lead in realizing commercial scale production, accelerate the crop growth cycle, make crop growth healthier and more consistent, and at the same time save up to Energy consumption of 30,000 Canadian dollars.

Founded in 2013, Ecobain Gardens is the first commercial plant factory in Saskatchewan, Canada. It produces organic and non-organic, nutritious herbs and small leafy vegetables in a completely enclosed indoor facility. The facility covers an area of less than 1,400 square feet and can produce 18,000 pounds of products per year. The planting measures are water saving (up to 98%), zero harmful chemicals or pesticide use, and the use of Philips’ brand new high-efficiency energy-saving LED lighting. Vertical cultivation technology and local distribution system reduce energy consumption, transportation time, wastage rate and overall operating costs.

Ecobain Gardens has established a partnership with food distributor Star Produce to distribute products to retailers in Canada, such as Loblaws, Federated Co-op, Safeway, Sobeys and some local food stores.
